To be fair, I believe it'd cause more problems than it would solve.
On anime data sources such as MyAnimeList, Anilist, Anidb, and others, animes are separated so that each season or even special episodes have their own entries. That would be a mess to manage and merge with TVDB and others, which have seasons and specials in their own series.
Compared to the drawbacks, I don't see enough benefit to use another anime source.
To you, @Changchangy, what would be the added value on Trakt by changing anime source ? Popularity, user ratings, and so on, are not currently imported by trakt, and other basic information is already imported from standard sources like TVDB, so I fail to see any benefit to be honest.

As of now you can click on the IMDB link and browse to the connexions (ex https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1409024/movieconnections?ref_=ttalt_ql_6) to see sequels and prequels, but that doesn't appear on Trakt, that would be a nice addition though.

Cool idea, and I agree it would be helpful to know why it’s on your watchlist.

Currently, you can hide a show from you calendar or progress page. Hiding from watched progress also hides it from your dashboard on deck. Hiding in those 2 places should work for most users.
This topic proposes a “dropped” status for a show. This would hide from the 3 sections mentioned above + add a “dropped” indicator in places such as the show summary page.

@Changchangy You can always use extensions such as https://github.com/nliautaud/trakttvstats to add MyAnimeList links along with the TVDB etc links of trakt pages.
I am only a Trakt user like you, but in my opinion, standard data sources and anime data sources are too different to work together without a ton more manual merging work and issues
