This is desperately needed. TVDB has so many asinine rules that cause more problems than they solve. Hell, even the ability to just have somebody manually fix up episode listings that are completely fucked would do wonders. The listings for Pokemon are completely wrong, but TVDB refuses to budge on it. It would take an actual human very little time to fix up the ordering on Trakt.

Its great that websites have rules so that the data is correct however the rules have to make sense! The whole "no sports" ruling is ridiculous, these programmes are tv programmes too and people watch them as a series

Redouane M., your two cents isn't worth even half. You misrepresent all the critiques put forward with no real input as to solutions. Perhaps you don't realize that TVDb doesn't allow just translations to English, it must be official or its not allowed. If the show didn't air in a country that speaks English, the English data shouldn't be entered on TVDb, according to their rules. This isn't an issue with TVDb as the rule makes sense, it's an issue with trakt not using the entire data available.

Your comment about rude moderators was flippant. I can handle it and have, but I would rather not.

Regarding rules at TMDb, they follow almost the exact same rules as TVDb except for the rule that there has to be 10 episodes of a web series before it's allowed.

This whole thread (including OP) seems to address some very individual use cases that do not make a strong argument to replace TVDB by the very green TMDB tv database. The mods are rude? grow a thicker skin, Trakt is not here to solve your problem with mods' attitude. You think TMDB has looser rules than TVDB, maybe loose isn't exactly better?
If Trakt start to cater to marignal use cases like this, soon enough there will be YouTube shows and homemade movies and maybe even porn too, why not?!

Also, Trakt is in english, makes sense to have shows that only have data in english, maybe the better solution is ACTUALLY translating the data of those shows you'd love to see on Trakt to english, like this you make an actual contribution instead of just whining and you get to see the stuff on Trakt.

Just my two cents.

We had the disaster with the initial V2 data coming from TMDB. This was due to obvious reason reverted. TMDB just isn't there yet. Their initial dump of TV shows is also littered with mistakes and missing data (how do you think they got a TV database one day suddenly?). In addition to this there is also a really damn huge gap of content too (esp. in the period where the TV section had a lot less users).
TVDB has the rules TMDB is still missing and I'm sure their new API and website will put them on the market once again.

I'd rather TVDB since it's maintained a lot better and has an active community making sure everything's accurate and well presented.

For Mickey Mouse, I just use the general Disney Animated Shorts listing. I end up seeing lots of Disney movies and stuff so it all works out. Droid Tales is under the Lego Star Wars listing. Plenty of WWE spin-off shows are on the TVDB, however they don't track sports. The new version of the TVDB might though. However, even if you could track WWE on Trakt the TMDb WWE listings are bare bones - they barely even have titles.

darren.murr, you seem to have not read my message. TVDb needs to be put to rest, it's served it's purpose. Help make TMDb better and we can do that.

As to your other point, there are already duplicate TV shows. Since TVDb is an open database anyone can add anything and they end up here. Sure they get removed, but it's manual so not sure what your point is there either.

And speaking of which; also a language fallback would be nice. Some Dutch shows will never ever be on English television. And there's no way people are gonna translate overviews / titles themselves.
TVDb doesn't even allow Dutch episode titles (even though English titles on Dutch pages ARE allowed?!) so it's just all empty on Trakt -- or anywhere that uses the English language only.

I was thinking more of case by case basis, instead of having a way to just import tv shows using TMDB.
For example there's one show that tvdb doesn't allow, someone would post on this forum, and then an admin would add the show and make it pull data from TMDB.

I would worry about moving away from TVDb as the main source of TV data - in terms of accuracy it's the only show in town. Whilst the moderators can be a bit dismissive and rude on TVDb(!), it's more important to have a set of rules that are rigourously adhered to in order to maintain pristine data and avoid edit wars. I've definitely disagreed with some of TVDb's decision in past but I wouldn't agree that the rules are "stupid". Do understand your point about the show's that they don't allow though (WWE has been a sticking point for a very long time). Can see the value of having a facility to pull from TMDB when a show doesn't exist on TVDb but I think this might be difficult to manage technically and I can see people using it as a way to "get round" things they don't like about the TVDb and Trakt ending up with lots of duplicate shows...?

We need to move away from TVDb. In addition to the odd rules, the moderators there are very rude and often insult new users for simply asking a question. The only way this can happen is to have a source as good as or better than TVDb. To that end, users need to start adding more info to the TV section at TMDb
