Disable rating for movies and episodes that won't be released in a month (or longer)
I know you declined this for all movies and episodes that haven't been released, because you're not sure if the release date is correct, but could you at least disable it for more distant release dates? (not including episodes with missing dates)
If you enable rating about a month before something's released (maybe earlier if that's necessary), you should be able to know if the exact release date is correct, right?

Unfortunately this is still very hard to predict with earlier online premieres and different release dates around the world. I’d like to do this as well, so i’ll leave it to continue researching.

For some added context, Rotten Tomatoes is reportedly blocking comments and ratings on films before theatrical release. Trakt shows their ratings in its UI.

Dear Justin,
I know this is kind of a controversial discussed topic since I think 2013 but it is still a problem and in my opinion something that really needs „fixing“.
Just as an example: there are currently 147 people who rated the movie Avengers: Endgame which will release sometime this year but is far away from even holding promotional viewings for the press etc. because it’s not even in post-production yet. So there are clearly 147 people who distort the future rating of this movie, and there are hundreds of upcoming movies more with the same problem.
IMDb had the same problem years ago and decided to disable voting until the release date. Meaning who watched it prior that date will have to wait to submit their rating and comment. And in all honesty: most people who watch it prior release date will have a hard time explaining how they legally did that... not saying there aren’t premier shows and film festivals doing so but the absolut majority of viewers is going to watch the movie legally at or after release.
Anyhow, I think everyone can live with a compromise like open voting 7 days prior official release or something like that. Or if you’d like to vote prior release you have to write a comment of at least 50 letters or maybe only open voting prior release only for VIP members.
I really don’t care how you restrict this but something has to change imho.
Best regards,

It's not that hard... all the release dates are public, and you don't even have to take them into consideration, use the US release date as baseline if that makes you happy, the point is that there's tons of movies with votes (and usually low votes) when they're YEARS from getting released.
We're not talking "i don't want to block votes because it releases tomorrow when it might release today somewhere else", we're talking people shouldn't be able to vote or do anything else on things that aren't even close to being released. No online premiere or whatever is ever going to be years before.

This is really important in my opinion. All the random ratings are destroying the end result of ratings.
Take "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" for example, it's gonna be released in late November this year and it's already got 81 votes, 816 watchers, 879 plays, 570 collected...
Being able to checkin on unreleased movies/TV also make them appear at the movie/TV section and mess with the trending/popular/plays.IMDB have the rating system locked until the movie has been released, why cant you?
