Idea: Community Moderators
Hi,
Trakt is growing bigger and bigger, with the new v2 it's obvious that you guys are a little bit shortstaffed.
It isn't easy to manage 800k users and this huge pile of data with 10 people or something like that. hence, there is a need for external voluntary help.
For example, you have GoodReads, it's a huge social network for books, it relays on a 'librarian' system where people can apply to be a 'librarian', a librarian can add books and edit current ones, add posters and stuff like that, then there's superior librarians who have more power and are selected by the amount of work they put in the website... etc, i think you get the point.
Here in Trakt, a moderator of the community will be able to merge duplicate items, moderate comments (inapropriate, gibberish, non-engish ones), deal with reports (if you implement a report system), and generally be a go between the managers of the website and the normal users (it's better than to answer all of the tickets yourself, Justin, eh?)... and stuff like that
to apply for this position you need to have at least x edits in TVDB or TMDb and be a user for at least x years... or something like that (to make the selection process easier and attract quality).
I love this website and I'd love to contribute to it, and I'm sure there are some people who would gladly do the same.

A bit of user interaction would be great. I speak from experience with MusicBrainz, Discogs, etc that user contribution is a major benefit. Looking at the data they provide compared to others like TMDB and TVDB that are more restrictive, the quality is clearly better. Sure, there is a down side too, but the current method also has a down side. There are many series' and movies that have incorrect data and refreshing does not always work as it is supposed to. Additionally, the changes are driven by difficult and controlling sources which does not help. I think there would be a huge advantage to be gained by a true user contributed movie database. Just a matter of who does it first.

Great idea except for the suggestion to censor users. Everything else is totally helpful & likely necessary for Trakt to keep going. I do have to agree with Jonatan Svensson Glad though..... but I see no other way to easily filter through applications for said positions.

That would be a really good feature and having a community this big I'm pretty sure there would be a lot of people willing to help =)

I've been an editor and reviewer on WIkipedia for over 5 years now with over 100K edits. However I have no edits on neither TVDb nor TMDb. If this gets implemented I don't see that a reqirement of x edits on a specific website should matter, only that they show knowledge in the field etc.
